INITIATES SCHOLARSHIP AND INTERNSHIP AWARDS PROGRAM

Bethesda,
MD - The Association of African American Financial
Advisors (AAAA) announces their 2007 scholarship
and internship awards program.
The
objective of the scholarship and internship program
is to provide students with broad exposure to the
financial services industry and to help them obtain
valuable industry experience. The program will
award scholarships to outstanding minority students
pursuing undergraduate degrees in business, while
demonstrating strong leadership abilities, integrity,
and a commitment to their communities. The program
will award five scholarships ranging from $200 to
$1000; along with an internship with AAAA, and the
opportunity for mentoring from AAAA members and
corporate partners.
Eligible students must: be currently enrolled or
accepted into an undergraduate program at a college
or university in the US for the Spring 2007 school
year; be a minority student of color; be a U.S.
citizen or permanent resident; have a B- grade point
average or higher (2.7 or above on a 4-point scale);
and have taken at least one (1) college-level business
related courses such as accounting, finance, or
marketing.
The
student essay will address issues surrounding college
students and credit card debt. Applications are
available on the AAAA website at www.AAAFA.org and
must be postmarked by November 9, 2007. The
scholarship awards will be presented at the organization's
2007 Scholarship and Awards Event, which will be
held on Wednesday, December 5th at the Woodmoore
County Club in Mitchellville, MD.

awards program in celebration of the organization's
five-year anniversary.
The
Association of African American Financial Advisors
(AAAA) Scholarship Program will be initiated in
2006. The objective of the scholarship and internship
program is to provide students with broad exposure
to the financial services industry and to help them
obtain valuable industry experience. The program
will award scholarships to outstanding minority
students pursuing undergraduate degrees in business,
while demonstrating strong leadership abilities,
integrity, and a commitment to their communities.
The program will award scholarships ranging from
$500 to $1000; along with an internship with AAAA,
and the opportunity for mentoring from AAAA members
and corporate partners.
Eligible students must: be currently enrolled in
an undergraduate program at a college or university
in the greater Washington-Baltimore geographic area;
be a minority student of color; be a U.S. citizen
or permanent resident; have a B- grade point average
or higher (2.7 or above on a 4-point scale); and
have taken at least two (2) college-level business
related courses such as accounting, finance, or
marketing.
The student essay will address the following topic:
"Numerous studies speak to the lack of minority
(people of color) financial advisors within the
financial services industry. What resources will
be required to resolve the issue? How can corporations
help to address the issue? How might the minority
community assist in trying to resolve the issue?
How might AAAA further its efforts to address the
issue?"

and must be received by October 23, 2006. The scholarship
awards will be presented at the organization's five-year
anniversary event, which will be held on Thursday,
November 16th in Washington, DC. Mr. Randall R.
Eley, President of the Edgar Lomax Company, will
be the keynote speaker for the event.

believe it is important to build a pipeline of persons
of color who are poised to enter and succeed in
the financial services industry" said LeCount Davis,
Chairman of AAAA. "Our success as a nation depends
on it". Mr. Davis is the first African-American
awarded the CFP designation by the Certified Financial
